You probably understand now that Slickwraps only makes wraps for select devices. Why? Well, with so many devices coming out all of the time, we simply have to choose where to concentrate our efforts… we can’t do it all!

So, why did Slickwraps choose to make a wrap for the Galaxy S II? The real question is: Why WOULDN’T we make a wrap for this amazing device?

Cases vs. Wraps – Which Do I Need & Which is Better?

Vivid Blue Glow Wrap from SlickWraps.com

In the last several years there has been a heavy push towards using skins as opposed to cases on mobile devices. The reason most people prefer skins over cases is the amount of style they can bring to an otherwise boring phone. Skins allow the user to completely customize their phone with different designs, patterns and materials. With hard cases users do not have this option, they are mostly limited to three choices; plastic, silicon and color. Hard cases are also bulky and hide your phone behind their thick and unsightly walls. In this article we will take a closer look at the differences between skins and cases and also look into what a wrap is and how it differs from a traditional skin.

The biggest difference between skins and cases, and the deal breaker for most, is protection. I personally feel this is a mute point for the majority of people and they are not even aware of it. Cases are usually made of hard rubber or plastic and give the phone some protection from drops, falls and scrapes. They cover the back and side of your phone and almost always leave the front unprotected. They are made of the same materials and look remarkably similar from brand to brand. Hard cases are also usually sold within feet of mobile phones so most people assume that this is their only option.

Cases are also bulky and awkward, some add as much as 35% to the footprint of your phone. When you’re dealing with some of the larger smart phones in today’s market this makes a huge difference. Imagine trying to fish a piece of plastic that is 5 inches wide and 7 inches tall out of skinny jeans or even getting it in there in the first place. The fact of the matter is this, most people are careful with their mobile devices and will never drop it. Many consumers have absolutely no need for a big bulky hard case for their phone or device.

Skins are usually made of vinyl or other materials such as plastic. Skins are thin and hug your phone keeping it free of dirt, oil, dust and scratches. They do not provide the drop protection of a hard case but as I stated before the majority of consumers have no need for this amount of protection to begin with. Skins allow the consumer to additional options such as style and design you cannot find in a case. Unfortunately the majority of skins are made of exactly the same material and are just printed on to bring the user design and color options. If this sounds familiar it is because I just stated the same thing about cases two paragraphs ago. The reality of the skin market is that most of the items you buy are almost indistinguishable from one another apart from the brand name. Now let’s talk about wraps.

Wraps are like skins, they are ultra-thin and hug your mobile device giving you the same dirt, oil dust and the scratch protection I mentioned before with one huge difference; the materials used. Wraps are made out of a variety of high-quality materials including, vinyl, plastic, carbon fiber, leather. wood veneer and photoluminscent (glow in the dark) plastics. Wraps are superior to skins in every way and it is solely because of the quality of materials used to manufacture them. Wraps are not just cheaply printed on vinyl, they have texture and the ability to mimic real materials in both look and feel without the bulk and weight you would find in a case. A wrap also applies without any air bubbles and can be easily removed and reused. Skins do not offer either one of these features, they are single use and most will not stay on for long.

To date there is only one company that supplies wraps to the world’s market and the word “wrap” is in their name. SlickWraps, Inc., an American owned company, can take full credit coining the term “wrap” in the mobile protection industry and has set the bar very high for what a wrap is.  Their products are removable, reusable and apply without any bubbles, making them wraps instead of skins.  The quality of materials used to manufacture these wraps has no equal.  SlickWraps is widely known for innovation in this market and is responsible for setting many of the trends in the mobile protection market.  A few one-of-a-kind products that SlickWraps have introduced in just this last year are glow in the dark wraps, real leather wraps, skateboard grip tape wraps, wood veneer wraps, heat-sensitive and brushed metal wraps. These materials were the first of their kind for mobile devices and have no equal in today’s market.  There are plenty of companies who sell skins but only one that sells wraps.

In summation, when you purchase a new phone or tablet you need to ask yourself these three questions:

1 – Am I the kind of person who drops my phone a lot or does my job require me to have heavy duty protection for my mobile device?

2 – Do I really like the extra bulk, thickness, ugliness and weight a case adds to my device?

3 – Do I want a boring black hard case like the overwhelming majority of other people have?

If the answer to any of these questions is no then you really need to consider a skin for your mobile device, or bet

ter yet, you can get a wrap.  Either way your phone will stay protected and you will be able to showcase your individual personality and style without sacrificing the protection that you need.
